October 2 was a perfect fall day to play a round of golf, and more than a hundred dedicated supporters of Bay Cove Human Services did just that—hitting the links at the gorgeous Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton for the 22nd annual George C. Cutler Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Bay Cove’s Center House programs.

The tournament, presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance, is played in memory of George Cutler, a founding member of Center House and one of its most ardent supporters. Since its inception, the tournament that bears George’s name has raised more than $1.5 million to benefit Center House programs that help adults overcome the challenges presented by their mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.

This year, Bay Cove is proud to announce that the Cutler tournament added to that impressive total, raising close to $100,000 to support Center House’s vital services. We offer our profound thanks to all the golfers who came to play and gave so generously.

Bay Cove celebrated another year of reaching people and changing lives on June 14, when close to 300 of the agency’s loyal supporters gathered at the Seaport Boston Hotel for this year’s Changing Lives Gala. The gala was a magical evening celebrating the milestones and accomplishments achieved by the men, women and children served everyday by Bay Cove, and the dedication of the staff and supporters who privilege it is to serve them, all while raising more than $300,000 to support Bay Cove’s range of services and programs for individuals with the greatest challenges.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and live music from The Samuel Batista Quartet, took part in a silent auction filled with wonderful items, and were then treated to a delicious dinner designed by our guest celebrity chef, Paul Wahlberg, of Wahlburgers and Alma Nove fame.

For the fourth consecutive year, auctioneer extraordinaire Susan Wornick was her usual effervescent self, and she did an outstanding job conducting a spirited live auction for some amazing and unique items and experiences.

And the highpoint of the evening was the presentation of the Changing Lives Award to Alma Wahlberg, matriarch of Dorchester’s own Wahlberg family. Alma was recognized for her tireless support of organizations that serve the most vulnerable people in and around Greater Boston, and for her and her family’s work inspiring hope and combating the stigma often associated with significant personal challenges.

On a beautiful sunny day, the eight members of Team Bay Cove were among the more than 30,000 runners who took part in the 2017 Boston Marathon. Cheered on by an estimated one million spectators along the route, Leanne Bragdon, Allison Cleary, Charles Hollins, Erik Mancyak, Heather Santymire, Caitlin Shanley, Caryn Metzger Smith and Lauren Spinelli ran the 26.2 miles between Hopkinton and Boston in the 121st edition of the world's oldest and most prestigious marathon.

In the process, our runners raised over $96,000 for Bay Cove's programs, while raising awareness of our vitally important services. They were given the opportunity to do this thanks to the John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program.

Please join all of us at Bay Cove in saluting our dedicated runners, who underwent months of grueling training and tirelessly raised funds for our agency because of their belief in Bay Cove's mission and the importance of the services we provide to individuals challenged by developmental disabilities, mental illness, addiction and aging. They are true heroes, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for this amazing effort!

Close to 200 guests gathered at the Marriott Courtyard Cambridge on March 23 for “Strengthening Our Community,” a wonderful evening celebrating the life-saving work done by CASPAR, as well as the brave individuals who've received services through our programs. The event brought together civic, community and business leaders from throughout Cambridge and Somerville, longtime supporters and brand-new friends, advocates for men and women battling addiction and/or homelessness, employees of CASPAR and Bay Cove Human Services and others to honor those we serve, those who serve them, and the generous supporters who help make the work we do possible.

At the event, Cambridge residents Eric and Lori Lander and Family were honored with The Carl F. Barron Catalyst For Change Award for their longstanding support of CASPAR, their commitment to creating positive change in their communities, and their unwavering efforts to help the most vulnerable residents of Cambridge and Somerville The award—named for a longtime supporter of CASPAR's work—is given each year to recognize important individuals who have made a positive and lasting impact in the communities of Cambridge and/or Somerville. Guests also enjoyed a lovely reception and a live auction—led this year by event chair Jeff Lockwood, Global Head of Communications at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, and Sarah Gallop, Co-Director of MIT's Office of Government and Community Relations.

We’re delighted to report that between auction proceeds, ticket sales and sponsorship donations, this year’s “Strengthening Our Community” fundraiser raised more than $150,000, making it CASPAR’s most successful to date!
