Responsibilities: Responsibilities:The Direct Service Advocate (DSA) is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment. The DSA is expected to set and maintain a welcoming, professional tone each night for guests; the CWC is meant to provide safety in the harshest winter months for homeless adults who may or may not be active substance users and unable or unwilling to utilize other existing shelters. The DSA helps settle guests appropriately in the space, serve the evening meal, maintain the drink station, monitor for safety, trash removal, support supply/re-supply efforts, and flexibly provide for guest needs. The goal of the CWC is to offer lifesaving shelter to unsheltered homeless adults throughout the winter months and to support safety and engagement of people who are reticent to utilize emergency shelters. The CWC offers a low threshold environment that is predicated on harm reduction principles. The DSA in this role will promote safety by offering respectful support and consistent application of policies and procedures established for the safety of each person served and all stakeholders of the CWC community. Previous experience in respectful de-escalation training is helpful. The CWC is open December to April 15th. Hire date is planned for mid-November to Dec 1, 2019
Qualifications: Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of modality specific issues, such as substance use, serious mental illness, and homelessness. Training and experience in de-escalation and crisis response required. CPR/First Aid certification. Must stay current with any modality required training. Employer can provide needed training if not previously certified.
